We don’t hear about the others,
The mothers whose boys were ripped from loving arms and dripping breasts,
The ones who slept, bone tired that night, with no prescient dream warning them to flee.
The other mothers, who with leaden eyes continued to bake the bread they could not swallow,
To tend the goats they no longer loved,
To beat the clothes on river rocks whether clean or not.
These other mothers lost their babies and their minds in one fell and devastating swoop.
Let us remember the Others.
