Description
This piece is a large pencil drawing based on Polaroid photos that my friends took while getting ready to go to our school’s Homecoming dance. Sharing makeup, helping each other with hair, and listening to music are pretty average activities for many teenage girls, but I feel that the value of these moments is greatly underappreciated. The emotional bonds that are forged through these kinds of interactions are some of the strongest that I have ever had. Many friends, particularly in high school, are temporary, but this just contributes to how special they are. In this piece, I tried to represent how, as corny as it is, my friends become a small family in moments like the scene depicted. The saturation gradient in the drawing holds significance too, with the more vibrant colors shown in the most densely crowded portion of the mirror to show the “heart” of the picture: the place the most products and conversations are being shared.
