Description
This piece is a felted, life-sized Anna’s hummingbird (Calypte anna) made with angora goat mohair and wool. It is inspired by the hummingbirds I see near my house. To make my piece, I used photos I took as reference images, then felted undyed mohair to make the base of the hummingbird and the general body position. Once the base was firm, I added layers of colored wool and mohair, mixing colors to make the hummingbird more lifelike. Throughout each step of the process, I used various types of felting needles to attach pieces, add detail, firm, and smooth my piece.
