Description
For the past two years, I have been scavenging junk yards, dumpsters, and second-hand stores seeking objects for a body of work called, Sorrows Into Strangers, which I submitted for the AP College Board portfolio. I look everywhere for materials. A mass of thread becomes guts. Rusted metal becomes a spine. Cardboard planters become eye sockets. My superpower has always been resourcing and claiming materials. By combining these found materials with spray foam, epoxy putty, plaster, metal, and resin, my work tells a story; a turbulent story of pain, sadness, and tension. The submitted piece titled “The Acquainted” portrays 3 out of the 5 senses of touch, sight, and hearing by which people remember their childhood through these senses.
