Brinley Hampton – For Ellery
I was inspired to create this piece for a few reasons. I was influenced by Monet, whose loose and freeform style has always intrigued me. I admire how he was able to capture light and shadow so vividly without the level of detail that I usually try to accomplish. In this piece, I attempted to incorporate Monet’s style into the background and more of my style into the subjects. The subjects in this piece are my sister and I. She is the person that I am closest to in my life, and I thought that this would be a good representation of our relationship. Additionally, she has gone away to college, and this piece was meant to represent my feelings surrounding this transition. This is a gift to her.
