Description
I wanted to experiment with a new medium, colored pencils, because it is something that I have never worked with before. It challenged my artistic abilities, especially because I wanted to make it realistic. The quote, “She was radiant, her cheeks glowing with heat, her long locks shimmering in the lantern light like golden marmalade” inspired this piece. I wanted to make the illusion of me glowing (being radiant), so I took different lighting, blue and orange, and sprayed my face with water so there would be more highlights on my face. I struggled to make the pencil look blended and then realized in the middle of making the art that I could take the white colored pencil to seamlessly blend the colors together. The different lighting in the photo also made it hard to draw because there were different colors for every shadow on the face. But I think this piece shows a clear development and revision of my drawing skills.
