Description
I experimented with many colors and what roles they could play in my piece. I originally was going for a realistic piece with depth and standard colors. Until I revised my color scheme and imagined the piece outside of the box of realism. I chose acrylic paint to work with because of the numerous colors one can make and how it connects to my theme and my love for painting growing up. I chose to use the autumn leaves to symbolize the comfort in this moment of time with my childhood pet while demonstrating signs of girlhood with the bows and decorating the cat with them. The leaves also represent the change apart of growing up and how time passes by just like the leaves. I feel the materials work together because of the expressive and innovative colors that help one feel certain emotions. The color also creates a sense of depth and contrasts that amplifies the significance of the piece. I created this work by just being bold and using large gestures, then confining it in a black outline. My process of the piece took a lot of trial and error. At first, I was aiming towards a realistic piece. However, the composition of the painting is too large. I created this piece because it was a significant point of time in my childhood where I was embracing girlhood and finding comfort in the point of time when it is always changing like autumn leaves. I wanted to exemplify the visual relationship of the pieces between the cats and the little girl, the leaves and the overall pieces, and the bows to girlhood.
