Description

I created this piece by coiling clay into a vase shape, attaching a handle, under-glazing a water pattern in blue, and then using a tinted clear glaze as the final layer. The shape of the vase and handle is inspired by ancient ceramic vessels, and the pattern of water is inspired by my childhood. I would often spend hours playing by myself in a pool or the ocean and watching the way the sunlight appeared underwater. These days of childhood bliss shaped my curiosity and observation of the world, along with my way of looking at time. I believe that our world moves too fast, so I created this vase to remind myself and others to slow down and appreciate the little things, like the way sunlight and water interact. I combined these two muses, water and ancient vessels, to represent the way time ebbs and flows depending on one’s perspective.
