Description
My intent for this piece was to show how sensory processing disorder usually goes along with autism, like in my case, and how it negatively affects a person’s ability to function in overstimulating situations. To show the main character’s sensitivity to the light, noise, and textures of the clothing, I drew hands pulling at the character in a way that looks like they are tied up. I also drew many of the background characters with open mouths, showing that they are having loud conversations that are adding to the main character’s unease.
I stuck to a mainly monochromatic color scheme so the light and highlights would stand out more being warm-toned, and outlined the character in the middle with a broken outline, while everyone else has a continuous outline, to show their feeling of not being fully present in the moment, but instead wrapped up in their own discomfort.
