Description

This inexpensive Fender dreadnought* acoustic-electric guitar was my son’s when he was a kid. He lost interest, and I lent it to a friend, who also lost interest. A third person, a guitar player, took a look at the instrument to determine if it had any value for a sale. “Not much,” he reported.

What to do with it? For starters, I’m an inept chord strummer, and the six doubled strings were difficult for my short stubby fingers to negotiate. In the summer of 2024, I was looking for objects other than canvases to paint. The Fender’s Siren song beckoned.

Originally covered with black lacquer, the guitar took a plastering with orange, green, and magenta. It then spent the next year in a closet. Upon its spring 2025 awakening from hibernation, I noted it was overly orange. A complement was needed. This instrument for playing the blues got a blast of blue.

The guitar is playable; the electronics work.

*type of large acoustic guitar developed by American guitar-make Martin. The style, since copied by other guitar manufacturers, has become one of the most common for acoustic guitars.
