Description

For this piece, I decided to use acrylic paint to imply many textures. The blended texture of the dress and parasol imply a soft fabric. The form of the dress is also composed of curved lines that add to this soft feeling. This is complemented through the light colors of the piece. The piece is mostly monochromatic with the red, pink, and white but accented with the more purple and yellow tones to imply depth. The pink background adds warmth to the piece and is a pink skintone, which implies the costume being worn. The light pink also conveys a feeling of childhood. The compilation of soft lines and light colors adds to the childlike feeling of the subject. I was inspired by the mood of Wayne Thibault’s work, and I think it applies well to this piece. The costume featured is one of my favorite dance costumes I wore in a performance. This work illustrates my childhood dream coming to life and the whimsical element of performing.
