Description

In this acrylic piece, I explored the theme of perceived reality, inspired by my fascination with how people view and rationalize their realities. I was also inspired by a book I was reading in English class, To the Lighthouse, which uses windows as a motif to show different characters’ perceived realities. I painted a broken window where you can still see the scene that was supposedly outside of the window through the remaining glass, but the space where the glass is punched out is filled with a black abyss. The window represents what we perceive to be real without any second thought, but breaking through it reveals that maybe this window is actually just a painting, a reality we constructed to cover up the disturbing fact that there is no inherent truth or meaning to anything.
