Description
“Stranger Behind the Front Door” is a depiction of anxiety, specifically the subtle and uncomfortable feeling of dread resulting from it. I’ve recently started using acrylic gouache and have become interested in the idea of layering different stains of watered-down paint for the dingy and eerie look it produces. I wanted the piece to look wrong or uncanny in subtle ways, so I incorporated things like a rusted metal door surrounded by stained and moldy wallpaper. The figure is also very top-heavy and only able to be held up by the branches forcing it in place and removing its autonomy. Which I used as a way to further the uncomfortable feeling.
