Andrew Shargel – Shallow Waters in Kauai

Inspired by my trip to Kauai and the works of Patrick Ching, a famous Hawaiian nature artist, I wanted to paint a scene from the islands with a more realistic technique, fully capturing its beauty. Patrick Ching paints sand and branches with such detail, they pop out of the canvas at you. In this painting, I had a lot of fun using strong blues for the sky and painting the shadows on the rocks. It got repetitive after a while but it was fun making each rock a little different.
