The Performing Arts Department of Saint Mary’s College presents the Saint Mary’s College Dance Company annual spring dance concert “In the Slipstream.” Being in the slipstream refers to the “turbulence behind a moving object that pulls us along.” The pandemic, global climate change and the political unrest in our world are all potent disruptors that can pull us in many directions. We are in the slipstream of all of this and as artists, we are called to action by these events. We have no choice but to be moved by what is happening. The concert is an evening of works choreographed by the faculty Crystaldawn Bell, CatherineMarie Davalos, Pope Flyne, Dana Lawton, Rogelio Lopez, Micah Sallid, Shaunna Vella, and Jia Wu with lighting design by Matthew Cohen and costumes by Bela Watson. The concert features, Modern/Contemporary Dance, Tap, West African, Dance Theatre, Asian Dance and Ballet Folklorico. The evening culminates with a tribute to our graduating seniors called “Reposar la Juventud en la Victoria (Standing in Your Victory).”
