Description
“How Much of You Didn’t Make It?” is a piece I created with gouache paint. From the age of fourteen, I struggled through the troubled teen industry, and coming out of it, it was hard to realize I was actually out of it. Returning to people who pretended I had never been there, who decided it was time I moved on from it, caused an irreparable amount of harm and grief. I wanted this piece to honor that child, the one who went through such intense levels of pain only to be met with a society not ready or willing to understand what goes on in the troubled teen industry. I hoped that by making this, I could tell the 14, 15, 16, and 17-year-old me that “I see you. I know what happened. I have not forgotten.”
