Description
This piece displays my battle with physical perfectionism. The blue monochromatic theme is symbolic of the trance-like feeling I get when I am hyper-fixated on my appearance. I used cutouts from magazines to show how social pressures lead me to be this way, and I purposely placed some next to each other to show the irony of a lot of the expectations we, as a society, place on teenage girls. At the bottom, it reads, “The Thing Frees herself”. “The Thing” is purposely distorted to show my twisted view of myself, and at the end, I refer to myself as “herself” to show my resolution to calling myself a human instead of a thing, which is my purpose.
