Description

This piece is, in a way, a culmination of the past four years. I have been working on the story of this character (and many more) since the pandemic started, and it has become an escape for me, something to address my own feelings with. This piece focuses on the theme of enmeshment– that is, getting so caught up in trying to solve others’ problems and carry their burdens that it begins to affect you. The white strings are used to represent bonds between characters (whether that may be familial, platonic, romantic, etc.). The words within are taken directly from my story; quotes that I have chosen specifically because I think they represent the core of several characters’ relationships with one another. The bonds themselves are intended to look like the shape of a human heart (since keeping everyone together kind of makes you the heart of the group), but I don’t think it turned out as clearly as I wanted. Still worth mentioning, though.

The title of this piece is from the song Bees; by The Ballroom Thieves, which I think fits the entire situation well.
