Description
My inspiration for this piece was hiking and camping in the Adirondacks. The Adirondacks have an enchanting mountain range, with snow and ice covering the peaks during the winter. This was a project I wanted to do for myself to express my interest in nature and my love for hiking and climbing these peaks. This ceramic mountain took around three weeks to make and is entirely hollow to be put in the kilm. Hollowing out the inside was the most time-consuming and technical part of designing this. I used many pieces of foam to cover the general shape of the peaks and details so that they would remain in the general shape I wanted. I used a slab for the bottom, which was then scored, slipped, and attached to complete the bottom. The fine details took multiple weeks to perfect and carve out. Overall, this project was a nice way to express my interest in mountains during the winter season and brought out my love for design and fine detail.
