Description
I explored by using a different composition; instead of white paper, I used pink paper for my piece. I also didn’t necessarily know where I was going to put the flowers or how I was going to draw the sky, and I just explored the direction my creative institution took me. I decided to make my piece spring-oriented, and I think pastels represent flowers beautifully. I also was reflecting on the child part of me, where I grew up using crayons in early creations, and how I graduated into using pastels. While creating this piece, I was taken back to my childhood self who would always use color books and draw things I loved. The oil pastels work together to make the piece feel childish and nostalgic but also sophisticated at the same time. Furthermore, I am going into more in depth about the layout of the piece altogether and how it relates to my them. The girl in the drawing is in a field in her flower, who just received a teddy bear for her birthday, and is reaching for change and growing into becoming an adult, symbolized by the large flowers. The young girl is surrounded by small flowers but looks ahead to the big flowers, longing for change, even picking up the small flowers. In addition, she is also exploring her girlhood element by adoring the presence of flowers and playfully getting in a field of flowers. I also liked the idea of leaving things unfinished to kinda represent the immaturity involved in drawings at a young age and the spark of creativity. I created this work because everyone at a young age always wants to seem or appear older than they actually are. I wanted to represent my perspective from a young girl’s standpoint that is always reaching for growth, especially during times of renewal like my birthday, and imagining parts of life.
