I used Polly Pocket playsets from the 1980s-90s to explore childhood playfulness and innocence alongside teenage anxieties. I was interested in the things that are happening around kids that they are aware of but not yet concerned with. Hidden in the Polly Pocket sets are images that represent different issues that produce anxiety for teens: political polarization, violence, and college. For example, a TV in the playset living room shows the Harris and Trump debate. The playsets are isolated in a completely black background so that their bright, child-like colors stand out.
