Description

I used graphite to sketch the piece and added some shading and/or grayer tones, ink for the hair, pen for the outlines, and gold paint for the tile pattern. I made this piece to let people understand a little about myself. My face, which merges with the sun pattern along with the moon within my hair, creates the effect that these planets symbolize what comes from within me. The placement of the sun around and attached to my head expresses my bright and creative ideas. The gold that the sun supposedly reflects onto the patterned tiles shows the influence of these ideas for presenting my Portuguese culture in the piece. The placement of my hair and the moon pattern within it, specifically around my heart, expresses the change and mystery of my soul. The intense silver lining of the moon makes it more prominent and emits a glow on the clouds. This is how I created the title, Shining Through, because all of these aspects made to create the sun and moon express these parts of me.
