Wicca Women: Where Life Begins and Ends is part of an art series depicting both the Zine Culture of the nineties and feminism. I was inspired by the poem “Witch Hunt” by Samantha Healy. I wanted depict the meaning of word “Wicca” and its use during the Salem Witch Trials, both important benchmarks in feminist history. Wicca, meaning wise or powerful people, and later used synonymously for witch. At one point in the poem she writes, “I am a Wicca Woman, I am a wikipedia woman, well versed and well read.” I wanted to illustrate the power of this line by isolating the figure alone in black. The contrast of purple, red, and green adds a supernatural effect to the woman, allowing her to feel all powerful.
