The goal of my piece is to make people chuckle. When they see it and understand its purposeless function, they will hopefully smile because it creates a beautiful flow of water for no reason at all. I was inspired by perpetual motion machines, but I gave them my own twist. It is not perpetual, so it will still function. I made this piece with slab techniques and carved in a grid pattern on the walls. The grid makes it look like a blueprint for this physics-inspired machine. I found it challenging to keep the lines from going too deep into the clay with my needle tool. I am an artist inspired by both nature and physics. I enjoy making impossible ideas seem possible.
