I was walking around and I saw this sign that had written on it, “Depression is nothing to be ashamed of, but the systems of oppression in this country are,” and I thought about how relevant these words were, especially in our political climate today. Immediately, I noticed something else: the vibrancy of the red building behind the sign. Right away, I found a connection between the words and the brightness of the red building behind it. The sign speaks of the systems of oppression in this country and my immediate thought was of the violence of police brutality. In my mind, I saw the red as symbol for blood and violence. Together, in juxtaposition, I immediately thought about capturing these two elements that complimented each other, almost as if they were together on purpose.
