Description
How can emotions/psychological ideas with negative interpretations be represented in alternative ways? For my first work addressing this central topic, I wanted to address it with the idea of death. Death, on the whole, is a perceived negative; it’s a loss of life, a person, place, or thing in the way we may perceive. However, death in that same vein is a part of the cycle of life, and in reference, I wanted to add a skull, a symbol of death, in connection to a lively green area, with fungus, trees, and vines. To me, charcoal and chalk are very malleable and easily changed materials, and representing the intangibility of death as a concept in contrast to the literal objects present in the image, I used to gain both parts of that world.
