one-tenth my weight
wingspread beyond my farthest reach
lands upon the snag
jutting from my hilltop roof
I imagine myself a rodent looking up
with anxious eyes into her claws
her superior vision fixing on my minuscule stirring
her swooping down
my scrambling from her hug of death
And I wonder
if I escape and face my fear
will I come to know and
hold within my heart
its near-relative, awe?
