What silent feet slip down the shaft of night?
Who shrieks from the forest dwelling?
Whose wings darken the falling moon?

Flowers jubilant in the sun
are spooks hovering
above the soil floor, itself

a roof over secret chambers
of untold stories,
untended furnaces, patient bones

Soul searches among the mysteries
and circles back restless as
deep-down ill-tempered earth

Prayer ascends, then an answer strange
as syllables in an ancient tongue
falls like gentle mist and settles in
