Event Details
Everybody, a finalist for the 2018 Pulitzer Prize, is a wise and joyful riff on the fifteenth-century morality play Everyman. The action follows Everybody (the lead actor chosen by lottery at each performance) on a journey towards life’s greatest mystery—mortality itself. The Saint Mary’s production will be staged outdoors in the Redwood Grove, timed to unfold from sunset through twilight into darkness.
The production will be directed by guest artist Daniel Larlham, whose past productions at SMC include Dance Nation (2020), The School for Lies (2020), Twelfth Night (2016), and Lysistrata (2016).
The script calls for the actor playing the lead role (“Everybody”) to be determined by lottery each night, a device that speaks to the play’s themes of uncertainty, chance, and the universality of certain basic conditions of human experience (mortality, vulnerability, suffering, love). There will be three actors cast as “Everybody” in our production.
