The subjects for John’s bold and colorful oil paintings rely mostly on photos he has taken while traveling throughout the world, to every continent except Antarctica. The exhibit includes a selection of interesting places and people he has encountered along the way, as well as a few still life subjects. John’s “painterly” style uses visible brush strokes, simplified shapes, and vivid colors to express his personal vision. His freestyle relies less on calculated decisions and more on an instinctual approach, emphasizing the beauty of painted canvas as much as the beauty of subjects before him.
