Join us for our March 2018 meeting with Gouache Artist
Peggi Kroll Roberts
March 13, 2018
Tuesday Evening Meeting 7:30pm
Alamo Women’s Club, 1401 Danville Blvd., Alamo, CA 94506
Peggi Kroll Roberts is an award-winning artist trained at Arizona State University and the Art Center College of Design, Pasadena. Peggi worked as a fashion and advertising illustrator before making the transition into fine art. Using intense color and value to accentuate her subject, she moved into fine art with a bold palette,, a love for small paints, and a very loose style that achieves a lot with a few very energetic brush strokes. She prefers to suggest reality than render it.
Inspired by her children, she paints beach scenes and other aspects of their lives. She also breaks away from the conventional still life by painting scenes of cosmetics and the occasional coffee cup or slab of butter. Peggi’s work gives us a new appreciation of our own daily life.
Peggi currently teaches still-life and figure workshops with Plein Air Liaison as well as several other locations across the country and abroad.
She describes her process as this: “I mass my shadows and darks first. This makes apparent right away my dark/light pattern and the proportion of the darks to lights. I try to keep the proportion around 1/3 light and 2/3 dark avoiding equal amounts and shapes of dark and light.’ She continues, “I pay attention to fluid paint application to create lively results in a painting.”
Peggi’s demo for our meeting will be to create a figure in a seascape setting using Gouache. Please visit her website: KrollRoberts.com to view her work.
