Paula Riley was born and raised in San Francisco, California.  She has resided in the Bay Area all of her life, and continually finds inspiration from many varied landscapes whether locally or while traveling in Italy, France, and Mexico!

Paula is a self-taught artist who has painted for over 30 years. Her joy-filled paintings are owned by collectors both regionally and nationally.

Paula is a color magnet!  She strives to create harmony and an inviting composition in her oil paintings.  She finds that mixing values and maintaining strong brush work provides a critical piece in her paintings.  Her focus is to paint shapes and color, not things! She prefers to paint her subjects direct from life when possible.

In addition to painting, Paula offers a few workshops here and in Europe as well as occasional private lessons in her home studio.

One of her most inspirational quotes is from Russian Impressionist painter Sergei Bongart., “Art is more than a product of your efforts – it should be about feeling, life, attitude, soul”.

Paula will demonstrate painting a garden scene in her very impressionistic style.  The focus of the demonstration will be harmonizing color notes, creating a balanced and inviting composition, and lots of brush work.
