AMANDA HOUSTON

October 8, 2019

Tuesday Evening Meeting at 7:30pm

Alamo Women’s Club, 1401 Danville Blvd., Alamo, CA 94507

AMANDA HOUSTON grew up on three continents and was a world traveler by the time most of us were learning to ride a bike. Her parents encouraged her to follow her creative passion.  After graduating from New York’s Fashion Institute of Technology, she became L.L. Bean’s first apparel designer and then Nike’s first Apparel Innovation Director launching their e-commerce business division.

After 17 years of traveling, designing, and merchandising sports apparel for big global brands, she found she was creating less and managing more, so she changed courses and concentrated on her art using Pastel.

She is a Master Circle Member is the International Association of Pastel Societies and sits on the board of the NW Pastel Society , where she is a Signature Member. In addition to be a published author, her artwork is on exhibit in several galleries in Washington state and Oregon.

Amanda describes her approach to her art: “Pastels give me the pleasure of drawing and painting at the same time. I love the forgiving quality, speed, and the buttery sensation of drawing with pastel sticks directly to the surface without brushes . . . Each painting brings its own set of joys and challenges, which pushes me to grow and to learn while giving me the pleasure of purely creating.”

Amanda will be demonstrating her technique of using Pastels.
