Event Details

Join poets Senait Mesfin Piccigallo and Dorothy “Dot” Edwards plus mosaic artist Bushra Gill to celebrate Black History Month!

Poet Senait Mesfin Piccigallo, who was born in Eritrea and now lives in Livermore, kept journals as she traveled through Ethiopia and China before landing in the US. An author who speaks and writes in three languages: Tigrinya Amharic and English, she recently published “You’re in America — Now What.” Her bachelor’s degree in sociology and anthropology is from Asmara University in East Africa.

Poet Dorothy (Dot) Edwards lives in Walnut Creek and is reading from her children’s book, “Langston’s Moon.” It is beautifully illustrated by Lafayette illustrator Grace Linderholm. In addition to writing poetry, she is writing two adult novels. One is a murder mystery set in Oakland and the second is a mystical caper set in a Caribbean island.

Lafayette mosaic artist Bushra Gill said, “The best part of making art is finding something in that process that leads to the next one and the next one … It’s the holy grail to staying interested for me, and figuring out ways to keep the flow going.”  A graduate of the Pratt Institute, she has exhibited extensively including at the Bedford Gallery, Arts Benicia, and  4th Street Fine Art Berkeley.

Participation by additional poets is in process. Each presenter is introduced by co-chair Linda Hartmann who also fields a short Q&A.

Once the poetry readings and presentation by artist Bushra Gill are completed there is a No Host Bar reception downstairs in the Lobby from 3;30 to 5:00 pm. There is an ADA-compliant elevator available.
