Performing Arts

The Lamorinda Arts Council became involved in supplementing the performing arts in the 1950's, when volunteers offered Performing Arts Classes for students in Orinda. It continued with dance-related Arts Integration Programs at Orinda Intermediate School from the 1960's to the early 2000's.

In 2006, the LAC expanded its performing arts program to bring student vocal talent to the public stage with the premiere of Orinda Idol, now known as Lamorinda Idol. Each year, Finalists for four solo categories and two group categories are selected by a panel of judges during May auditions open to all Lamorinda students. The Finalists spend the summer preparing and performing, culminating in the Finals in early September at the historic Orinda Theatre. For more information, please see Lamorinda Idol.

The LAC also provides financial support for the After School Drama Programs in the Orinda Schools, including:

~Orinda Intermediate School Bulldog Theater Company Fall Play and Spring Musical
~All Four Orinda Elementary Spring Musicals

Annual Lamorinda Acalanes Union Film Festival (LAUFF)

The Lamorinda Arts Council also provides an annual Scholarship Award to winners of Lamorinda Acalanes Union Film Festival (LAUFF) competition for high school filmmakers.

Congratulations to the winners of this year’s film festival. With over 120 attendees, this was the biggest year, yet! 25 short films were screened, including films from Campolindo, Acalanes, Las Lomas, Miramonte and Joaquin Miller.

Awards included a $500 Supplemental Scholarship Award from The Lamorinda Arts Council to assist Winner(s) in attending a High School Summer Program in Video Production.
