Lamorinda Idol 2017 Audition Information

Solo singers will compete in one of four grade-based categories: K-2nd grade; 3rd-5th grade; 6th-8th grade; and 9th-12th grade. Group singers (from 2 to 10 students) will compete in one of three grade-based categories: K-5th grade; 6th-8th grade; and 9th-12th grade, based on the grade as of May 2017 of the oldest member of the group.
Students in kindergarten through 12th grade living or attending school in Lafayette, Moraga, or Orinda, as of Spring 2017 are eligible to audition. Past solo winners of Lamorinda Idol are not eligible to compete in the same solo grade category again, but may participate if they qualify for the next grade category or in a group category. Past group winners are eligible to compete in the same group category only if at least 50% of the members of the new group are different. For example, a winning duet could replace one singer or could retain the original 2 singers and add 2 singers to form a quartet, and a winning trio could replace 2 singers or retain 2 singers and add 2 singers to form a quartet. Each student is limited to two auditions: one as a soloist and one with a group. Students from outside the Lamorinda area may participate in Group Categories, if one of the group is from Lamorinda.
Auditions will take place May 11-13, 2017, at Orinda Intermediate School, 80 Ivy Drive, Orinda.

Audition registration will be open April 1-30, 2017. To reserve an audition slot, singers should go to LamorindaArts.org and review the necessary forms and complete the online registration form. Upon submission of the registration form, the registrant will be immediately linked to a PayPal site, where an audition fee of $15, to help with the costs of the Lamorinda Idol program, can be paid. The audition fee must be paid prior to the audition date. Following submission of the registration form, registrants will be invited to SignUpGenius to select an audition time. All members of a group must register; however, only one member of each group should select the audition time for the group. There are limited number of audition times and auditions will be available on a first come first served basis. After the close of the registration period, on approximately May 8, registrants will receive an email notification confirming the audition schedule.
Parents of students auditioning are required to complete the Permission and Volunteer Form, which should be brought to the auditions.
Audition Song Length
Each K-8 soloist or group will sing up to 1 minute 30 seconds at the auditions; high school soloists or groups will sing up to 2 minutes. While for the Finals and summer performances careful editing of back-up music may be required to comply with song length constraints, it is not necessary to do any editing for the auditions, as longer songs will simply be stopped after 1 minute 30 seconds.
Auditions will be judged by a panel of three members of the community who are experienced musical performers. Audition judges will be looking for vocal and performance ability and will rank candidates by a confidential deliberation process. Up to ten Finalists and two runners-up will be selected for each of the seven categories. Due to time constraints at auditions, there will be no feedback given to auditioners following their audition. All those auditioning will be notified by email of the audition results by May 28, 2017.
